How do we develop micromobility in cities and what role do e-bikes play?

Wed 14 Feb | 13:20 - 13:40

As cities attempt to reduce reliance on private car usage, decreasing congestion and improving air quality, micromobility options such as bicycles and e-bikes present both environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives for consumers still wanting to quickly reach their destination. The rise of micromobility has been a success story of recent years, with millions of people in cities accessing a growing range of micromobility options for their transport needs.

This discussion will cover the practical steps to developing micromobility in cities, especially public-private partnerships and the role that e-bikes have to play in micromobility solutions.

After a highly successful pilot with the Stuttgart S-Bahn, in June 2023 Brompton and Deutsche Bahn launched their €41 per month subscription package nationwide. The 12-month subscription provides a foldable bike that can be taken free of charge onto trains and buses without the purchase of a second ticket, as well as insurance and a comprehensive service check after six months. Deutsche Bahn introduced the scheme as a way of promoting the combination of bicycles and trains.
